This week's topic is Making and Prototyping. Simon Maidment is just integer. In my understanding, PROTOTYPING is a very important stage in the design process, providing a set of tools and methods to properly test and explore ideas before using too many resources. A prototype can be a set of simple experimental models used to quickly and inexpensively test or validate ideas, design assumptions, and other aspects of their conceptualization so that the designer can modify and upgrade the outcome in a timely manner. In many cases, if the lack of this link or do not attach importance to the Prototyping may lead to serious consequences, so I think Prototyping is a very important part of the whole design process.

He mainly introduces Making and Prototyping from three aspects, namely The Material of Making, The process of Making, The context of Making.

The material of making: For designers, design materials are The seven points of making. It is very important to choose appropriate materials. And we need to do some research on potential materials to understand their own characteristics so that we will not be limited by the material itself, but we can use the material to realize our ideas. Moreover, the combination of different materials constitutes the form and function of the outcome, and the idea we want to convey is also generated accordingly.
The process of making: Simon Maidment gives just a few examples of The process of making. The tin-making video is just interesting. The manufacturer of The integer uses sand as The prototype, resulting in a very unique outcome form. In my opinion, The most important thing in The process of making is to dare to try and make lots of attempts. Moreover, we should learn from previous experience in each attempt and constantly ask ourselves why and how to do it. And to change their conventional mode of thinking, bold innovation, the courage to practice.
The contexts of making: just remain The integer "re-think". We can look at the old design and the old mode of thinking through new eyes and think about its future possibilities. And to enliven old things with new ways of thinking.

This session was very helpful for my prototyping, it provided many new ideas and ways I could use some of them to start optimizing and developing my existing visual experiments.
